Microsoft Madness |
|
| 12/18/2001 - As I mentioned in
page 1 of the 2001 Christmas card, you must be very careful these days
to avoid the bugs and vulnerabilities that hackers can take advantage
of. Most of these problems are due to the complete lack of thought
to security in the design of Windows. The latest version (XP) is
much better in theory but time will tell how well it really stands up to
attack. For those of you (us) who haven't yet purchased a
brand-new machine with XP on it you will need to do some things to
ensure you don't become a victim of a virus, worm or other attack that
may steal VERY personal information from you and your computer. If
your information gets stolen it is usually up to you to prove you didn't
do the things (buy the things) the hacker did with your identity... a
painful, long process that doesn't always work out for the better. This section of the web site will be a continual work-in-progress as there are new issues, vulnerabilities and problems cropping up every day so check back occasionally. |
