What?  No glasses?

Before

R.B. had 'eye-surgery' in the middle of summer and is now 'glasses free'.  He went from being 'legally blind' (-3.5 diopters +astigmatism) without glasses to having 20/15 vision in both eyes.  R.B. has never been able to wear contacts though he tried probably 6-7 times during the 1980's and early '90s so glasses were destined to be his solution to poor vision.  After doing quite a bit of research into the surgery he realized that his normal optometrist was recommending one of the 'top-10' surgeons in the nation to perform the surgery.
Dr. Durrie in Kansas City is simply in an elite crowd of surgeons and R.B. recommends him highly.  R.B. also recommends that anyone considering the surgery to do extensive research into the equipment and surgeon before having the procedure done.  There are quite a few 'horror stories' out there from old or bad equipment, poor procedures, poor operating room environments and inadequately skilled surgeons.  Certainly eyes are not something that should be taken for granted and after much research R.B. can tell you that you will get what you pay for.  Dr. Durrie is not cheap but by comparison to other outcomes he is glad he paid 70% more to have him do the surgery when compared to the some of the local options.  Dr. Durrie also has a track record that simply cannot be beat.  You could probably say he has helped write the book on this type of surgery.

After

It already paid off in Colorado late this summer.  While on a bike trail decending at over 45 mph down Vail Pass R.B. encountered a thunderstorm with driving rain and lots of lightning.  Without anywhere to take shelter R.B. pushed even faster to get out in front of the storm and was able to leave the lightning and heavy rain behind a mountain.  He had encountered this same situation once before a few years earlier and nearly killed himself due to the rain hitting his glasses and being practically blind without them.  This time was very different as he could actually see very clearly while he rode in the stinging rain.  Not probably the best time to be on a bike but certainly being able to see without glasses helped him make it through unscathed.
